The photo below is one I took a few weeks ago, of Hadrian’s Wall.

The wall is close to 80 miles long and was built around 2,000 years ago. Amazingly, much of it is still standing and in remarkably good condition.
As I walked along it, I couldn’t help but think about how few of the things built today, are built to last.
Cars, computers and phones are all built in the knowledge that their useful life will be limited. Most people don’t drive the same car for 10 years, use the same computer for 5 years or the same phone for more than a couple of years. Many people change their car, computer and phone every year or 2.
Then I looked a little deeper and wondered how much of what I create, will still be around in years to come. It was a sobering thought.

Good morning, Mr Connolly.
Whatever else we do or do not build in this world, there are surely two things that will endure – indeed have endured – for centuries to come. Too few in today’s world give due consideration to the impact of their actions when they seek to secure the first, or how that will in turn influence the second.
And these are?
Family and community.
In the end, nothing else really counts.
Kind regards,
L
