As regular readers will notice, JimConnolly.Com has had a redesign. Like before, the emphasis has been on putting the content first, with the actual design as ‘out of the way’ as possible.
Clean, clear and easy to read
For me, this means lots of clean, white space with a simple header image and clear, easy to read text.
Ultimately, it’s the content of a website, which people value. Some very smart designs today are so snazzy that it almost feels like the content is underneath it. Whilst the overall look of those sites is impressive, if their sizzle either makes it harder to find the content or harder to focus on the content, it’s a waste of time.
Whatever website or blog design you use, never forget that it’s what you have to say, which matters. The design should never get in the way of your message.
So very true, mate. I’m looking at more minimalist designs myself on some of my current designs for new projects, and I also make sure I use responsive designs for all my content.
User experience is key, especially when it comes to the amount of mobile browsing today.
Cheers!
Hi Danny. I like sites that are uncluttered, where I can get to the content easily and without distractions.
I have been reducing on my main blog too, though it’s a bigger challenge there, because of the nature of the site. Expect to see less and less of the theme, as I figure out new ways to reduce.
Thanks for the feedback, my friend!
