The Secrets of Success The fastest and most powerful way to achieve success is to find out what the most successful people do – and then DO IT!
I have made a successful career from the study and implementation of the world’s most successful tactics and strategies. Below are some of the most successful people I know, along with an insight as to what they consider to be 'The secrets of success'.
- JIM ROHN - (My Mentor) Many people have asked me who MY mentor was. The gentleman’s name is Jim Rohn. As well as being my mentor (and a genius), Jim was Anthony (Tony) Robbins’ boss and mentor too! Here’s what Jim says about success – It’s worth listening to the man who was offered $5MILLION by a soft drinks company for his ideas:
“Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become.”
“The power of failure is its subtlety. Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.”
“Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are.”

- BRUCE ELLIOTT SMITH - Bruce and I have been friends for many years and I've seen him achieve stunning success in too many areas to mention here. As a musical genius he has won a Grammy Award (with Kylie Minogue) – and as an entrepreneur, he runs a number of extremely successful organisations. Here are some of Bruce’s secrets of success:
“When I started out in music, I realised that it was not enough to just have a gift; you still had to ‘get out there’ and make things happen if you wanted to succeed. I made sure that I got connected with as many great people as possible and worked really hard. If you are good enough, never ever give up and focus on doing the right things, it will happen for you - it has to - just keep on keeping on!”

- CHARLIE ADAMS - My friend Charlie Adams, author of the superb book; “Stoke the fire within” is one of the stars of the American motivational speaking profession. As a former television news and sports journalist, Charlie bucked the trend when it came to TV News. He emphasized positive news over negative news. He made it a priority to showcase the incredible attitudes of positive achievers. Here’s what this inspirational leader told me about his secrets of success:
"Being successful means you follow the formula I have seen over and over in high achievers - here it is: C + D = E
Commitment + Determination leads to Excellence! Commitment is the unwavering decision to be successful. Determination is the fuel and the fire within. Excellence is the result."
"For many years Jim, I covered sporting events at the University of Notre Dame. They have a saying for their administrators, coaches and athletes who have cared deeply and given of themselves to the greater cause of team. The saying is "they left their blood in the bricks." When you have cared deeply about something and left your blood in the bricks when you are done, that is success!" To find out more about Charlie Adams and his work, click here.
- PIPPA COLLETT - Pippa is the Managing Director of Sponsorship Consulting Limited; a London based firm with a client list that includes many internationally respected companies. After a recent marketing meeting, I asked Pippa what she believed to be the secret of her success. Here’s what she shared with me:
“I firmly believe that a ‘positive focus’ is one of the keys to success. For me, this means focussing on what you want to achieve, focussing on your strengths rather than your weaknesses and always focussing on solutions rather than problems.
I know it has been said before, but negativity around oneself, one's work, colleagues and the wider world cripples success. Identify what is really important to you and then focus hard, but not exclusively, on achieving it - you should still make time for a beer with a friend!”
